Overview

This is the webpage for the fourth edition of the "Magnetic Fields in the Universe: from Laboratory and Stars to Primordial Structures".
The three previous editions, MFU I, MFU II, and MFU III, were held on Angra dos Reis (Brazil, 2004), Cozumel (Mexico, 2008), and Zacopane (Poland, 2011).
In the fourth edition, the conference returns to the Mexican Caribbean, this time to the  Playa del Carmen, on February 4-8  of 2013.

The Proceedings of the previous editions can be found in

SCIENTIFIC RATIONALE

The scientific goal of the conference is to provide a continuation of the previous editions. The meeting will cover a wide range of topics, bringing together experts in theory, experiments, observations and  modeling of magnetized plasmas.

Some issues to be addressed in the conference are:

  • laboratory plasmas,
  • magnetic fields in stars,
  • magnetic fields in the interplanetary and interstellar medium,
  • the role of magnetic fields in star formation,
  • magnetized jets and outflows
  • magnetic fields in galaxies and the intergalactic medium,
  • primordial magnetic fields,
  • basic plasma processes,
  • magnetized turbulence,
  • magnetic reconnection,
  • dynamo processes.

The conference will consist of invited talks on the topics of general interest, as well as a number of contributed talks, and poster presentations. The poster contributions will be in exhibition for the entire duration of the meeting, and we will arrange a couple of sessions devoted to discuss the results presented therein.

VENUE

The conference will be held at the conference center of the RIU Tequila hotel in the area of Playacar, in Playa del Carmen, México. The venue is located about 60km, south of Cancun International Airport.

The venue is located about 60 km. south of Cancun International Airport in the Mexican Caribbean, along the Mayan Rivera, known for its beautiful beaches and archeological (mayan) sites..
