Chiral magnetic effect has been a topic of wide discussion in recent
literature, in connection to QCD. We show the arising of a chiral
magnetic effect in QED for an electron-positron medium. The effect
occurs even in a neutral medium (electric chemical potential $\mu
=0$). By considering the electroweak model we find that the chiral
chemical potential is equivalent to the neutral charge chemical
potential, and vanishes since neutral charge is non-conserved even at
the classical limit.
