Chiral symmetry breaking and confinement are a reality of QCD inaccessible through the sytematic formalism of perturbation theory. We use Schwinger-Dyson equations to study these eerie phenomena in the continuum. There are reasons to expect that at high temperatiure and density, hadrons ca me melted to a state which restores chiral symmetry and deconfine colored states. There are still open questions regarding the simultaneity and nature of these phase transitions. We argue that Schwinger-Dyson equations are an ideal tool to study these questions.
