Quantum Sensors
Recent developments in quantum information science have allowed greater insight in the ways to harness quantum phenomena and enhance the performance of sensors. Indeed, quantum sensors can be mathematically described as noisy quantum channels, while quantum control techniques developed within the context of quantum computation are also useful for quantum sensing hardware. In this seminar I will offer a general overview of the quantum sensing programs currently under development at ITT Corporation, one of the largest providers of science and technology to the US Department of Defense. I will briefly discuss the unique potential advantages of quantum radar, a biologically-inspired quantum sensor for magnetic anomaly detection in anti-submarine warfare, and a biologically-inspired quantum photo-sensor for high-bandwidth underwater optical communications. |
